Sept 25: How does Confucianism influence East Asian Political Values?

Confucianism, the system of thought/philosophy that originated in ancient China, has profoundly influenced the formation of Eastern societal and political values. Furthermore, many of its fundamental patriarchal, hierarchical, communitarian, and anti-pluralistic principles are against western democracy. So, is Confucianism conservative or opposed to liberalism? In this forum, we will look into the traditions of Confucian political values and their relationship to the past and future of east Asian democracy.
